FRANCE / RankWire.AI / – Renault Group has announced plans to allocate over €10 billion in France over the next five years. Chief Executive François Provost revealed this commitment on October 3. The funding aims to enhance electric vehicle production as well as support lower-cost models. During 2025, Renault manufactured approximately 500,000 vehicles in France, with expectations of at least a 25% increase in French production in 2026. Provost noted that the investment is contingent upon stable social and political conditions within the country.

Since 2021, Renault Group has already invested €13 billion in France. This expenditure has bolstered factories, electric vehicle manufacturing, and associated industrial activities. By July 2026, Renault reported producing one million electric vehicles in France since 2010, with about 600,000 of those produced at its ElectriCity manufacturing hub in northern France. The company employs nearly 39,000 individuals across France and states that its domestic operations support around 35,000 jobs within its supplier network.
Renault maintains a comprehensive manufacturing network throughout France. Its assembly facilities include Douai, Maubeuge, Dieppe, Batilly, and Sandouville. Additional sites at Cléon, Ruitz, Le Mans, and Flins provide mechanical and industrial support. The Douai plant produces the Renault 5 E-Tech electric, while Maubeuge is responsible for the Renault 4 E-Tech electric. The company also manufactures electric commercial vehicles at various French locations, forming a vital part of its electric vehicle production in its home market.
Electric Car Registration Growth in France
Battery electric vehicles accounted for 42% of new passenger car registrations in France during September, setting a new monthly record for fully electric cars. The country registered 156,629 new passenger vehicles in that month, representing an approximate 12% increase compared to the same period last year. During the first nine months of 2026, battery electric models made up about 31% of all registrations, up from nearly 18% during the same period in 2025.
This growth in electric vehicle production aligns with Renault’s outlook, as EVs are capturing a larger share of the French automotive market. The company anticipates at least a 25% increase in output from its French plants this year. In July, Renault also announced an additional €13 billion investment in France under its futuREady plan, pending appropriate conditions. Provost’s October remarks confirm a current five-year commitment exceeding €10 billion. These statements follow Renault’s €13 billion domestic investment since 2021.
ElectriCity Sites Central to Renault’s EV Production
By July 2026, Renault’s ElectriCity facilities in Douai and Maubeuge had produced approximately 600,000 electric vehicles. The Renault 5 E-Tech electric surpassed 100,000 units produced by the end of 2025. Maubeuge also manufactures the Renault 4 E-Tech electric and electric commercial vehicles. Between 2022 and 2025, ElectriCity added 700 permanent jobs, with an additional 550 temporary workers at Douai as production ramped up. The new €10 billion investment expands upon Renault Group’s existing €13 billion expenditure on electric vehicle manufacturing and related activities since 2021. The company projects significantly higher domestic vehicle output in 2026 compared to 2025. Provost emphasized that the next five years will focus on electric vehicles and more affordable cars. This announcement coincides with a year of record monthly market share for electric vehicles in France.
